February’s Share the Plate recipient is the Food Bank of Delaware. Throughout the government shutdown, the Food Bank has provided emergency food assistance to Delaware’s federal workers, well as to local recipients of the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. Despite a temporary end to the shutdown, furloughed workers do not know when they will receive back pay or if the government will shut down again. And SNAP recipients may find themselves without benefits in March if the shutdown is resumed. The Food Bank will continue to assist these individuals and their families, many of whom are struggling to survive.
