Service Description
Doctors are told, “when you hear hoof beats, think horses, not zebras” when it comes to finding a diagnosis. Think of the common before you think of the rare.
What happens, though, when you come into a doctor’s office and find out that you are the zebra?
You’re served an all-you-can-eat humble pie buffet. Each slice teaches you what it means to be the 1 in 10 Americans living with a rare disease. Each flavor teaches you what you need to survive; but also that, at the end of the day, it’s still pie.
Join us on a journey of transformation through each slice as UUFN Lay Leaders Christina Lisk and Emily Van Vlack teach us about humility via rare disease. Christina has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome and Emily has Klippel-Feil syndrome. Both stories are different, but they end in the same location: sitting at the table with a slice of humble pie.
