13 Years of African American History Research by Syl Woolford

Syl Woolford has been researching African-American history since the city of Newark published a book entitled “250 years of the History of Newark 1758 to 2008” and left his family out of the book. Syl’s presentation will describe how he does his research and the topics that have been most impactful to him.

BIO:

Mr. Woolford, a native Delawarean with a BS in Business Administration/Accounting and an MBA in Marketing, is recently retired from a career in accounting & sales. His interest in history began with the researching of his own family history,on his mother’s side. The Saunders Family has been a part of the city of Newark’s history for 200 years. Most recently, he has traced the Woolford side of the familyback to Dorchester County, MD, and made a connection with Harriet Tubman’s legendary efforts in freeing slaves in that county. Currently involved with 11 different historical and genealogical societies, Mr. Woolford has received several awards and tributes from State and National organizations. A very active lecturer in the region, Mr. Woolford offers an impressive catalogue of 48 different topics.
