Dear UUFN Family,
We are a group of generous souls eager to help during this time of great need. Here are three things you can do from the safety of your home:
1) Donate to the Newark Area Welfare Committee (NAWC), which runs a food cupboard out of the Newark United Methodist Church on Main Street. You can donate online at https://www.newarkareawelfare.org. Scroll down to the “Donate” button at the bottom of the page. This group also needs volunteers for the cupboard—see below.
2) Donate to the Food Bank of Delaware, which is a critical resource for the Newark Area Welfare. Committee. The Food Bank has been serving millions of pounds of food in a very short time to people in need. Donate online at https://www.fbd.org.
3) If you sew and have the materials at home, you can join the Help for Healthcare Workers Delaware Facebook Group that is making masks for nursing homes right here in Delaware.’.
The NAWC needs volunteers to pack the groceries at the food cupboard and deliver them to eligible recipients in the parking lot of the church. The cupboard has implemented procedures, including the use of gloves, masks, and social distancing requirements. If you’re interested, e-mail Linda Debski at nllinda@verizon.net.
Thank you, dear friends, for being generous to those in need and for supporting our own UUFN.
In fellowship,
Your Social Justice Team
