A Study of Zen Master Dogen’s Genjokoan

January 13 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

January 13 & 20, 2024, 1:00 – 2:30pm

All are welcome to join UUFN for a series of workshops to study the thirteenth-century Japanese Buddhist Zen Master Dogen’s Genjokoan.

During this series, we will offer 90-minute workshops where we will look at Zen Master Dogen’s Genjokoan. Dogen was a prolific writer and he is known as someone who writes from a place of the profound clarity of his meditation practice. The Genjokoan is the one he chose to place at the beginning of his magnum opus, the Shobogenzo.

As in most of Dogen’s writings, it may be difficult to understand when first encountering this text. In these workshops, we will dive deeply into the content of Genjokoan and how it addresses many aspects of Buddhist practice and the practice of zazen meditation.

In this workshop we will explore how Dogen approaches the forms of practice as the very voice of the Buddha Dharma itself.

The workshop will be led by Bill Daiman McCracken an ordained novice priest in the Soto Zen Buddhist tradition.

The first two workshops are Saturday, January 13 and January 20, 2024, at 1:00 – 2:30 pm.
Held in MacKinnon Sanctuary
