Our Book Club — The BookBums
We meet the third Friday of each month (except December) at 7:00 pm. Meetings are HYBRID: in person and virtually, on Zoom.
The recommender shares their research on the background of the book and author and leads the discussion, which often results in lively debate.
After a general analysis of the work, our conversation sometimes flows into personal applications of the book’s ideas.
Check our Reading List below to see this year’s selections and notices about special meetings and field trips.
For more information, contact Sandy Schriever directly. You can ask the UUFN Office to put you in touch with Sandy (email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 302.368.2984 during office hours).
In the list below, the date and discussion leader are followed by an Amazon link where you can go to see a description of the book.
Check the Delaware Library Catalog for availability in a variety of formats (books, audio CDs, HOOPLA, and electronic formats). audible.com and Kindle are other sources you can check.
2023 Reading List
For all books save one (March book entitled Tisha), multiple formats and copies are available in the DLC (Delaware Library Catalog). If you have trouble, call the library (302) 731-7550) and ask for the Reference Desk.
For a quick summary of a book, use the links below to see Amazon's description.
Jessica Myers and Sandy Schriever — Tisha by Robert Specht. Hoopla audio and 2 hardcopies available.
Sandy Schriever — Fuzz by Mary Roach. NCC Read book. Hope to be getting our free copies very soon but there are multiple copies in the library system. Will have our annual Chase Center field trip on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 7:00 p.m.
(Special date to accommodate our Texas member (Laura Schriever-Stewart from Houston)) — A Man called Ove by Frederick Backman. (You can see the new related Tom Hanks movie, A Man Called Otto, which should be out around Christmas). We could also read Anxious People for those who have already read Ove and want something new.
Jan Owens — The Overstory by Richard Powers. “The best novel ever written about trees” (Ann Patchett)
Anne Feurer — Lucy by the Sea by Elizabeth Strout (might be interesting to read two books by the same author — see Oh, William above).
Sandy Schriever — Fellowship Point by Alice Elliott Dark. Longish book so want to give plenty of time to read.
Enjoy the holidays and read a good book on your own. No meeting.
