A Zen Experience via Film

Why Has Bodhi Dharma Left For The East?

On November 19th, about a dozen UUFN’ers sat in silence for a film, the watching of which was itself a Zen experience.

This award-winning meditative film explored various Buddhist teachings and koans through the lives of three monks in a remote monastery: an old master, a young man who left his family to seek enlightenment, and an orphan learning his way in the world.   We took breaks for walking meditation and discussion. Fortunately, there were English subtitles, but the impact of the film was not in the text.  It will not spoil your future viewing of the film to hear that the Bull cried.

The meditative state allowed the viewers to observe their own reactions to the film as it unfolded.  For more information about the film, or meditation, contact Joan Wheeler or Richard Field.
