Save those poinsettias!

They can be re-bloomed for years.  After they are done this year, cut back the stems to 4 to 6 inches long.  Keep indoors and water like other houseplants.  In the summer, put outside and continue with water and some fertilizer.  In October, as the weather cools, bring them inside.  In mid-November, begin to force them:  Put them in the full sun during the day.  Put them in the basement or closet away from the light.  They will bloom in December.  The bracts will be smaller and more delicate, but just as red.  We are reproducing the natural light cycle of their origin in Mexico.  Here is a picture of a bloom on a three-year-old plant.
