Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Newark

yoUth groUp

The senior high youth set most of their own agenda for the year. They meet along with an adult team of youth advisors who assist them in developing leadership and planning skills. Among the group’s typical activities for a year are occasional lock-ins at UUFN, a youth BOND weekend of mountain biking and trail maintenance, discussions about being a Unitarian Universalist in their daily lives, distributing Holiday baskets for the Newark Area Welfare Committee, raising funds for youth service projects and leading a UUFN worship service for the congregation. This year the group has one Green Project Sunday (projects to protect the environment) and one Popcorn Theology Sunday (exploring the big questions through movies and TV programs) each month.

The purpose of the yoUth groUp is to create a balanced experience of community building, social action, worship, learning, and leadership development for high school teens. Although there is a core group of advisors, the responsibility for much of the activities of the yoUth groUp is up to the youth themselves. Youth often use the UUFNyouth Yahoo Group for organization and communication.
