Roots & Shoots

As part of the Jane Goodall Institute's Roots & Shoots program, the young people explore issues of human justice, fair treatment of animals, and environmental health. They decide what they want to do, figure out how to go about doing it, and discover whether or not it works.

In past years, for example, they have been guardian/sponsors for an orphan chimp, raised funds for the Santa Martha Rescue Center in Ecuador, done volunteer work at Chenoa Manor Animal Sanctuary in southeastern Pennsylvania, met Jane Goodall, provided OXFAM hunger banquet educational experiences, and raised funds for a Central Asia Institute school near the Afghanistan/Pakistan border. In 2006, the chapter received a certificate of recognition from Jane Goodall for exceptional accomplishments implementing service projects that promote care and concern for the environment, animals and the human community.

The Roots & Shoots group also produces and acts in the annual UUFN holiday pageant.
